AUSTIN, TX -- Brent Grulke, former music journalist and the creative director of SXSW's Music division, died on Monday in August from a heart attack following oral surgery. He was 52 at the time of his death.
A native of North Platte, Nebraska, Grulke attended University of Texas at Austin, majoring in Radio/Television/Film and working as an editor to at student newspaper The Daily Texan. Following his graduation, Grulke worked as a sound engineer at venues around Austin and as a tour manager for bands such as the Wild Seeds, True Believers and Killer Bees and then as the music editor at The Austin Chronicle
Grulke was the subject of a CelebrityAccess profile in 2009.
