Soulful, compassionate and talented in many facets of life, Jasmine Rhey is a singer, songwriter, performer and linguist who aims to “change the world for the better through music, song and the way [she] lives her life.” The 24-year-old has enough talent and determination to accomplish just that.
Born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, Jasmine Rhey has been passionate about music and singing as long as she can remember. At the age of 12, she began taking vocal lessons and performing in various stage plays and musicals along with many solo gigs.
In 2006, Jasmine Rhey competed in two pageants and was crowned Miss African American Student Union and Miss Black and Gold for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated at The University of North Florida. She was also a member of The UNF Gospel Choir. As a member of The International Peace Performers, led by Frances Key, she had the honor of performing at the 2009 Department of Peace National Conference in Washington, D.C. Jasmine has also co-hosted two radio shows, been featured on the DJ DRAMA & DJ DR DOOM mixtape “Thanksgiving In July” as well as planned, promoted and performed in a number of successful events in Jacksonville, FL.
From the moment she stepped on stage and the butterflies flew away, she knew that was where she belonged. Collaborating with other independent artists and singing cover songs at local venues was an inspiring step toward her goal of recording her own full-length album in 2009. Singing original songs that she penned, in the album Perfect Imperfections, she tells her unique story with the hope that her words may touch listeners and leave them with a positive message to carry forth.
Jasmine Rhey has performed extensively throughout Jacksonville and surrounding areas at many of the city’s premier venues and festivals, including but not limited to The Landing, Square One, Tera Nova Lounge (Pure), The St. Augustine Amphitheatre, The Seawalk Pavilion, The Leopard Lounge and The World of Nations Celebration, held every spring at Jacksonville’s Metropolitan Park. She has also graced stages in Miami, Tampa, Atlanta and Cairo, Egypt as well as opened for Sunshine Anderson and Bizzy Bone concerts.
In 2011, Jasmine began a process of pushing four new singles “Make It Easy,” “Fascinated,” “International,” and “Ms. Rhey.” She traveled to Miami, Tampa, St Petersburg, Ocala, Gainesville and Atlanta meeting with DJs and potential fans. Now, with the support of many major DJs in Florida, she plans to spend the first quarter of 2012 returning to the major cities in Florida and promoting to potential fans with her promotional CD, which contains the four new singles.
Jasmine’s second love is language and culture. She graduated from The University of North Florida in 2009 with a degree in Spanish and basic knowledge of French and, soon after, traveled to Egypt to study Arabic for 1 year. During her stay in Egypt, she sold and promoted her album from 2009, and performed her songs at different events in the country. Jasmine has the support of 2 of the most influential DJs in Egypt on Nile FM. She also took lessons in Arabic singing and learned to play the Oud, an Arabic guitar.
With such a well-rounded musical and personal background and education, Jasmine is looking to make her own way into the music business. She is currently under no contracts and is seeking to earn her way into the industry by building her craft, buzz and knowledge of the business to a respectable level so that her near future decisions will be wise.
Jasmine Rhey is the future of R&B/Pop/International/Dance music and the whole world will soon take notice of this rising star.
